Panel Appearance

With or without striations.

With Striations

Reduces oil canning (the wavy distortion sometimes visible in flat metal panels) and adds visual stability. The most common choice for residential Standing Seam.

Without Striations

Smooth, clean architectural appearance. Best for short panel runs or projects where the smooth aesthetic is more important than oil-canning prevention.

FAQ

Standing Seam questions.

What gauge Standing Seam should I choose?

24 gauge is recommended for coastal and commercial projects where maximum strength and wind rating matter. 26 gauge is ideal for most residential and light commercial builds.

What's the difference between Nail Strip, Snap-Lock, and Mechanical Seam?

Nail Strip — fastest install, no clips needed. Best for residential.

Snap-Lock — uses clips, clean architectural look. Homes and commercial.

Mechanical Seam — highest wind rating. Coastal and commercial preferred.

Are Standing Seam panels cut to length?

Yes — every panel is custom-cut to your exact specs at our Ravenel facility. Standard range is 3 to 35 feet, with longer panels possible with the right trailer.

What's oil canning?

Oil canning is the wavy or rippled appearance sometimes visible in flat sections of metal panels. It's largely cosmetic, doesn't affect performance, and is reduced by ordering panels with striations.

Do you carry Standing Seam accessories?

Yes — clips, fasteners, sealants, closures, boots, and underlayment. We carry everything you need for a complete Standing Seam system.
