Metal Types & Finishes

Built for Lowcountry weather.

Charleston and the Lowcountry put metal panels through humidity, salt air, and hurricanes. The metal type and finish you pick directly affects how long your roof or siding holds up. We supply two main material categories.

Galvalume® Steel

An aluminum-zinc alloy coating that delivers excellent corrosion resistance — perfect for coastal Charleston regions. Long lifespan, high durability, and a natural metallic finish that ages gracefully.

Painted Metal Panels

Available with two paint systems:

  • Kynar® (PVDF): Superior fade and color stability — ideal for homes and high-visibility projects.
  • SMP (Silicone-Modified Polyester): Cost-effective and great for barns, sheds, and utility buildings.

Dozens of color options available across both systems. Color availability varies by profile and gauge — call us to confirm before ordering.

Common Questions

FAQ — Metal & Gauges

What gauge is best for a metal roof in Charleston?

26 gauge is recommended for stronger durability and coastal resistance. 29 gauge is popular for general residential and small structures. For high-wind or exposed areas, we'd recommend stepping up to 26 gauge or even 24 gauge.

What's the difference between Kynar® and SMP paint systems?

Kynar® (PVDF) offers superior color retention and fade resistance — ideal for homes and high-visibility projects in coastal SC.

SMP (Silicone-Modified Polyester) is more cost-effective and great for barns, sheds, and utility buildings.

Do you offer standing seam panels?

Yes — standing seam options vary by gauge and color availability. See our Standing Seam page or contact us for specifics.

Can you help me pick the right gauge for my project?

Absolutely. We can recommend gauges based on the type of building, location, exposure, and durability needs. Just call us with your project details.

Do you cut custom lengths?

Yes, we custom-cut panels and trim based on your specifications. Standard ranges are 3 to 35 feet, with longer panels possible if you bring an appropriate trailer.

Is 29 gauge too thin for Charleston weather?

29 gauge works well for many homes, but 26 gauge is preferred in high-wind or exposed areas. We're happy to walk you through the trade-offs based on your specific location.

What metal is best for coastal environments?

Galvalume® with a Kynar® coating provides maximum corrosion resistance — the best combination for direct salt air and coastal exposure.
